If the fabric won't move with the stitch length set properly, check the feed dogs' height. This may be a result of worn out or bent teeth on your needle plate. Take a look at the following causes and solutions to see if you can fix your sewing machine. Problems with the feed dogs or setting stich length to 0 will prevent the fabric from moving as you sew. This might be your problem if you recently created a buttonhole. If feed dogs are too low to grab the fabric, adjust feed dog height. Check your settings and adjust the stitch length if it's set too low or at 0. Most sewing machines require you to set your stitch length to zero for the automatic buttonhole stitch.
Your Stitch Length Is Set to 0: If you’ve made button holes on your sewing machine recently, you may not have changed your stitch length back to 2 or 3.
If the stitch length on your sewing machine is set to zero, it won’t move your fabric forward or backward. There are several possible reasons why your sewing machine won’t sew or feed fabric. The machine is a fairly new model, first in production in 2011, so it's not likely you have a broken part - but it is possible if the machine has been asked to sew too thick a fabric, or if fabrics have been pulled forcefully through the feed dogs. When the stitch length is set to 0, it won’t move fabric forward or backward. Simply make your stitch length longer to start sewing normally again. Why is the fabric not feeding and moving straight? Check whether the presser foot is properly pressing down on the fabric as you sew – if it is not it will be impossible to sew straight.
