The Vortex Optics Viper 6.5-20x50 PA Mil-Dot Reticle is a very good scope and one of the best in class. The HST is designed for AR applications and will cover your requirements with the 30mm long single machined aluminum alloy body, that is hard anodized and Argon gas purged for fog free performance. Many users have stated that this scope is so good that you would expect to pay more for the purchase of it and that they are amazed at the affordability of the scope. A forgiving eyebox with increased eye relief gets you on target quickly and easily.
My son (who still has good eyes) gave it a try and had the same issue. The mil version is in half mrad subtensions.

I couldn't get the new Viper clearly focused at 100 yards. This product comes with excellent features never seen on other riflescopes before.
The Dead-Hold BDC reticle is good for any hunting or shooting at varying ranges where estimating hold-over would be a concern. If glassing is important to your hunting, you want clarity, light gathering, etc. But, if you have to go Vortex, definitely try to go with the Vipers.
Vortex Viper 6.5-20x50 PA Riflescopes are necessary when precision shooting at high magnification is a must. If you want a great scope that actually does what it says on the box, then the Vortex Viper 6.5-20x50 is the one for you.
