By Dave Resto. Feral Roots isn’t Rival Sons’ most instant album yet; this isn’t a record of tracks like Keep On Swinging and Open My Eyes. Feral Roots doesn’t shy away from the bands older influences and keeps the rawness of the band alive and well but adds a more polished production and ultimately packs a superior sound.
The "Feral Roots' song is totally Zeppelin-like, in the same time it will divide listeners in two huge camps as lovers and haters, I afraid.
Updated February 1, 2019. Feral Roots is the sixth studio album by American rock band Rival Sons.It was released on January 25, 2019, through Low Country Sound and Atlantic Records. It was preceded by the lead single "Do Your Worst", which peaked at number one on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart in March 2019. It is the band's first album since Hollow Bones (2016), and their first release on Atlantic Records.
Formed in Long Beach, California back in 2009, Rival Sons are in my opinion one of the best bands currently playing classic bluesy hard rock. Now in their prime, Rival Sons – Jay Buchanan (vocals), Scott Holiday (guitar), Mike Miley (drums), and Dave Beste (bass) – are pleased to announce the release of the band’s new album, Feral Roots, slated to drop on Friday, January 25, 2019 via Atlantic Records.
I’ve seen them live three times, first at Sweden Rock Festival in 2012 and then in Bergen, Norway in 2015 and 2018. Because each touch to legend is dangerous. One more quick word about 2019 Rival Sons issue- the album is getting scores on the reason of too lean current hard rock market, mostly of the modern rock bands sounds pathetic. Since 2009, Long Beach, California’s Rival Sons has done a fine job preserving the wild spirit of Rock-n-Roll bliss. Since debuting in 2009 with the self-released Before the Fire, Long Beach, California's Rival Sons have been on a tear, delivering a refreshingly unfussy blast of blues-blasted hard rock on an almost yearly basis. Try them definitely. 8/10 . Rival Sons Bring on the Electric Warmth of Rock and Blues on Feral Roots Ten years into their career, the California boys are still rockin’ Rival Sons celebrate their tenth anniversary as a recording and touring band with their new release, Feral Roots. The album marks another successful collaboration with producer Dave Cobb (Zac Brown, Brandi Carlile, Jason Isbell) on his Nashville-based label, Low Country Sound. Rival Sons are back with an album that takes the modern radio-rock sound and elevates it to a whole new level. It’s partly that, but it’s also an album of depth and impact that merits luxuriant poring over. And perhaps most significantly, it’s the sound of 2019’s answer to Page and Plant throwing down the gauntlet, daring the competition to make their move.
