The River Retreat cabin is in Berthoud Dale, first established in 1925 as a fishing retreat on the Big Thompson river for a small group of families from Berthoud, Colorado. The Big Thompson becomes fishable at Moraine Park in Rocky Mountain National Park, about six miles downstream of its headwaters.
